Buddhism is a religion and dharma that describes a variety of traditions, beliefs and spiritual practices mainly based on teachings of Lord Gautama Buddha, founder of Buddhism. Buddhist religion is originated in India. 

Buddha, known as Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini and grew up in Kapilavatthu, a town in the plains region of modern Nepal. Parent’s name of Gautama Buddha is King Suddhodana & Queen Maya.
There are two branches of Buddhism as Theravada and Mahayana. Buddhism is the world's fourth-largest religion, with over 500 million followers known as Buddhists. Buddhism is an Indian religion attributed to the teachings of Buddha.

The pinnacle of Theravada is the attainment of the of Nirvana, achieved by learning the Noble Eight-fold Path, also named as the Middle Way that  means escaping from a cycle of suffering and rebirth. Theravada has a mostly founding in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.


Mahayana includes the traditions of Pure Land, Zen, Nichiren Buddhism, Shingon and Tiantai is founding throughout East Asia. Dhamek Stupa, a holy shrine is built by Ashoka situated in Sarnath, where Buddha sermons his speech after got enlightenment. The Statue of Buddha located in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh delineate Parinirvana of Buddha.

Buddhism in India: Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, known as Lord Buddha.

There two major branches of Buddhism: The Theravada in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia and the Mahayana throughout the Himalayas and East Asia.

Buddhism is a big religion in the Himalayan areas like as Sikkim, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. 

Gautama Buddha got enlightenment under a Pipal tree, also termed as the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. 
At the Sarnath Deer Park Buddha set in motion the Wheel of Dharma by giving his first speech to the group of five members. All together along with the Buddha formed the first Sangha, the company of Buddhist monks. 

Followers of Buddhist religion is known as Buddhists, Saugata, Sakyans, Sakyabhiksu, Sakyaputto,  Ariyasavako and Jinaputto.
